Hannah’s Top Tips To Maintaining Your Health Throughout The Festive Season.

A few simple ways to keep healthy during the festive season.

Let’s be honest, the silly season can 100% feel like a social calendar overload and can definitely be overwhelming. This season is all about celebration, unwinding and enjoying a much needed break with family and friends. Enjoying your festive season doesn’t have to mean forgetting all the healthy habits that you’ve been practising throughout the year.  Keeping track of your health during the festive season can be challenging. However, with some of the below simple practices, you can be at the top of your health even during the silly season.

Move your body

Your exercise routine will likely look a little different over this time of year and that is ok! We encourage you to remember that any movement is better than no movement and this movement will help boost your immune system that is so important at this time of year. Whether it’s a walk in your local area, a game of tennis, an ocean swim or doing one of FORMode’s Pilates or Yoga sessions that you can do anywhere/anytime.

Try to stick to a morning routine at least a few times a week

Morning routines are important all year but having a good routine just for the busy holiday season is even more important. It can change your whole outlook on the day and set you up for your day ahead. I recommend adding in listening to Christmas music or a Christmas podcast to really boost your mood and help you stay in more of a holiday spirit.

Catch up on your sleep

With all the socialising and celebrations, don’t forget the importance of sleep. It is so easy to be burnt out after the festive season instead of feeling refreshed and ready for another working year. Use this time to not only enjoy time with loved ones but to also rest, reset and catch up on those hours of sleep.

Take some time out for yourself

The festive season can be full of social events and very little time relaxing. Make sure you still schedule in some YOU time and prioritise your wellbeing. Whether that's a night in with a face mask watching your favourite christmas movie, reading a few pages of your new book, lighting a candle and taking a bath, cooking your favourite dish, or do a daily FORMode class, whether that’s movement, meditation or breathwork.

Nourish your body and look after your digestive system

It’s more than ok to indulge in all the things you love most over christmas, including the christmas pudding, homemade truffle, mulled wine and all the ferrero rocher’s your heart desires. With this being said, remember to moderate your intake and still consume 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day to help maining your health.

We also recommend taking some probiotic supplements to help support your digestive system. With the usual overload of alcohol, rich food and chocolate treats, your digestive system may need some extra TLC and probiotics can help the body digest food and absorb valuable nutrients.

Stay hydrated

Drinking enough water and staying hydrated is essential for overall well being. For some of us the festive season can involve weeks of celebratory drinks, a time where mulled wine, bubbles and cocktails are flowing until the NY. Make sure you drink plenty of water before and after drinking

Be Kind to yourself

The holidays are a time where we’re bound to fall out of our routine and it’s completely normal for us to eat, drink and celebrate differently than how we usually would. Instead of feeling guilty or bad about falling out of routine, be kind to yourself and focus on making memories with your loved ones.
